Sherbourne house
This charming federation home built in 1903 on Sydney's north shore provided a special opportunity to honour the heritage elements of the house while creating a warm family home that met the needs of a growing family. The unique grounds and space afforded a design that elevated and reimagined unique heritage features. The reuse of fixtures that always had a home in this space served as inspiration for the redesign and the restrained addition of modern touches allowed for a feeling of warmth and elegance in the space.
A locally sourced antique chandelier served as the centrepiece for the master bathroom.
The original marble place surround was relocated within the house to a central living space where it provided the perfect frame for Barbara Moores's piece XXXX.
Throughout the house floorboards were finished with a natural and non toxic oil. Antique chandeliers selected for the living space elevate the room and offset oversized cushions and comfortable lounges.
Outdoor lamp posts were the designers reimagined conversions made from the verandas original support posts.
Original lighting was maintained where possible and balanced with modern fittings for functional spaces.
Original doors and windows were preserved in spaces where possible. Glass was panels were recreated by Mark Douglas.
